Course Objectives To examine and translate different types of scientific texts in English and Turkish.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Students will be able to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to deal with a wide range of scientific texts
  • develop a basic proficiency in written scientific translation from Turkish into English and vice versa
  • develop an understanding of how to manage terminological and other linguistic resources
  • exploit the internet as a translation resource
  • assess a scientific text in terms of target audience and register and choose the most appropriate translation strategy
  • perform terminological research and be familiar with scientific terminology
Course Description In this course, a broad and holistic introduction to scientific translation will be provided. Texts taken from scientific articles pertaining to a variety of domains (biology, chemistery, physics, engineering, medicine and social sciences) will be translated from Turkish into English and vice versa.
